So yesterday, I tweeted that being Yearbook Editor in Chief was one of the best experiences of my life. Then I started thinking of other things that qualify to be in that category. Immediately I thought of both Natural Helper retreats in High School, where I learned lessons in team building, helping others and taking care of oneself. (For a better explanation head here.) I was chosen to be a Natural Helper as a freshmen and later selected to be one of the returning seniors. Board breaking and being a New Student Orientation leader is certainly on my list. And to round things out I'd say being on Mission Improv-Able, the improv troupe, at AU. I want to say college as a whole as well but I think that most people would feel the same way and thus it's more of necessary passage into adulthood. The smaller experiences at college do attribute to us as individuals, so that's why I picked NSO and Improv to represent my years at AU.
Why these experiences? I learned more about myself and others. I collaborated and was taught the value of teamwork. I was able to be creative in some circumstances and in others I was able to strengthen my personal communication skills. All experiences were shared with people that I may not have met otherwise, their diverse personalities, ideas, and backgrounds certainly changed me for the better. These things are very critical to my current existing professional and personal goals and had they not shaped me as a person, I wouldn't have the ambition that I have today.
So, Thursday Shareday- What are the best experiences of YOUR life?

I missed the yearbook EIC tweet. Another reason I heart you! I was the Yearbook EIC in high school AND in college.
One of my best experiences, working promotions for a major DC radio station in college. I got to do and experience SO MUCH! I miss that job and that crew.
Janice: This is definitely a tough one. It's sometimes hard to distinguish between best as 'had an awesome time and would relive it in a second' vs. best as 'challenging and difficult but taught me a lot about who I am'. So I'll pick one for each :)
'Had an awesome time and would relive it in a second': I'd have to say senior year of college. My experiences as an orientation leader and RA made senior year fun as I knew a lot of the underclassmen. Plus, I had two of the most incredible co-RA's of all time, and a floor of freaking amazing residents. That plus my good friends from all three years before made it the most fun year of my life.
'Challenging and difficult but taught me a lot about who I am': Hands down my two years as a middle school teacher with TFA. Taught me what I can do, what I like to do, and what I want to do :) Plus I met some pretty cool kids along the way. But, was definitely super hard and challenging.
Scott: Every summer, my family and I would go to Estes Park, CO (seriously amazing....I highly recommend it!). We would stay in a log cabin, go hiking, camping, line dancing/hoedowns, build fires, horseback riding, among other awesome things. We haven't been back in a while and, in fact, my family seems to conveniently schedule all family trips whenever I'm not available since then...interesting...
Janice: Since we mentioned best experiences, i'd like to close with one of the worst experiences of my life. Sitting next to Scott as he typed that (for the last 20 minutes) as he typed, erased, started over, typed again, erased again and eventually got his story out.
Thanks for instigating the sharing Jaci :)
I will follow Janice's lead and do a best/most fun ever experience and a trying/so glad I stuck it out experience, too.
Starting with the tough stuff first - freshman year of college. There were times when I never thought I would make it - the grey days, the cold, the late nights, missing home. But then I found my circle of friends, and we made a home in DC and believe it or not we all survived. The strongest always do.
The best experience ever planning and having our wedding. Unlike what the magazines and WeTV will endorse it isn't always just cake tastings and dress fittings but with a fantastic partner/husband we were able to plan a wedding that was everything we wanted it to be. It tapped into my planning and creativity skills that I hadn't been actively using, more on that later :)The best culmination of the planning was the amazing time we had celebrating our love and the love we have for our family and friends, it was unreal.
P.s. another great experience, quitting a sucky job!
