did you see it?

The week in television:

Thankfully all of TV was back thanks to that big sports event thingy being over...

Monday, we had a new episode of How I Met Your Mother
- Week after week, I am in awe of Lily's outfits and clothing. She is the best dressed 'real person' on tv. (Because let's face it no one you know dresses like the cast of Gossip Girl) Though you may not know it, a lot of Lily's clothes are actually designer duds. I practically screamed with jealousy when she was wearing my favorite DVF mini on an episode a few weeks ago,

(screencap from the episode "Jenkins" which guest starred Amanda Peet and is probably my 2nd favorite of the season so far, after the 100th episode of course)
What I enjoy most about this is that Lily dresses well and isn't "in fashion". She is a teacher, not a Ralph Lauren employee like Rachel Green or a socialite sex columnist like Carrie Bradshaw. I also love that they dress her far better than Robin who is the show's acclaimed 'hot girl.' Though, I suggest they start dressing Robin a little bit better because sometimes I think she dips way too far into cheesy territory. Nobody wears that much polyester.

Moving on to Tuesday, where we had Idol guys night and a kick ass Sayid episode of LOST. For me this week's LOST ranks 3rd place out of the 6 episodes that have aired so far, "The Substitute" and "Lighthouse" in my first and second spots respectively. I could talk about LOST for years but we'll leave that to my nerdy discussions with family and friends. Let's move on to Idol...

First and foremost, I want to be best friends with Big Mike. He is so positive and so happy to be on the show, yes they pimped his storyline but he is such a great person that I think he's worthy of the attention. That being said, I don't think he was the BEST performer on Tuesday night. But for those of you who watch the show, I recommend you pay attention to him at all times. He is always hooting, hollering, smiling, grinning, singing along when the other contestants perform. Like the plot line of his baby being born during auditions, his support and enthusiasm makes for entertaining television.

Truthfully, the most notable moment of my Idol watching experience on Tuesday is the 180 in my feelings towards Alex Lambert. He who once irked me greatly with his 'wearing sunglasses inside' and recent Carol Brady inspired mullet won me over this week with his humble, sweet and awestruck persona. Not to mention, I loved his rendition of  John Legend's "Everybody Knows". If it was available for purchase on iTunes, which is what happens once we get into the Top 12, I would have bought it. For now, YouTube will do:
*he kind of botches the last note, ignore that
The only advice I want to give Alex is to stop trying to channel Jason Mraz and truly embrace his own star power. But this advice comes in a sisterly way- no longer in a snarky, "take off that fedora tool"- tone that it would have been in last week. Man, I love a good change of heart!

I lust for Lee with his David Cook vibe though I prefer last week's rendition of Chasing Cars to this weeks Lips of an Angel. As for the rest of the guys, thankfully Tim Urban stepped it up and improved because I was enraged that he stayed solely based on his baby blue eyes and Zac "swept in my eyes" Efron hair. Aaron Kelly has a lot of vocal power, he just needs to "figure out what kind of artist he is," words stolen from the judges mouths but really the best way to explain his problems.Andrew Garcia has not impressed me since "Straight Up" and thank heavens creepy Jermaine is gone. They need to figure out how to style Casey's hair. He is reminding me of Shaun White.

What really is annoying me at this point is the fact that Idol has to split the Top 12 with 6 boys and 6 girls. Because the truth of the matter is based on talent, the majority of the Top 12 should be girls. Next week when we have our final round of eliminations before the "real event" two girls will leave that could have stayed in lieu of the two less talented guys that are there to be placeholders in a need for six men.

Gender dichotomy is a betch.

Moving on to Wednesday night's Idol,

So many of these girls are talented. While Crystal Bowersox is my favorite, I am also a huge supporter of Katelyn and Lilly.

Katelyn Epperly's performance of Coldplay's "The Scientist" was my favorite performance of the night. The judges didn't give her as much credit as she deserved and complained that it was "too slow." But it's a SLOW, EMOTIONAL, SONG. I just think the judges have a way of sticking to their guns and praising their selected front runners and not giving credit to lesser known talent.
Also don't get me started on how brutal they were to Didi. While it wasn't an AMAZING performance it also wasn't worthy of their intense criticism.

Siobhan hit an awesome note- and despite the fact that she is probably the girl who ate glue in 2nd grade art class- you have to admit she's got star potential.
She does have to change her song selections.

The little drama girl- thespian type- also has an outstanding voice. I can't remember her name though and I want to move on from gabbing about Idol.

I believe we're on to Thursday and that's where I'll conclude my Idol thoughts,

I'm proud to say I predicted 3/4 people who went home and I am currently 2nd place in my American Idol pool. I'm not proud to say that I basically bawled through the whole elimination show. What I love about Idol is seeing people chase their dreams. I also get attached to their characters and spirit- so once it's time to say goodbye, I can't help but have a little too much emotion.

Moving on to The Office, which is thankfully back in my life after what seemed like an extremely long absence,
Michael killed it. nailed it. The best part of The Office is Michael's thought that he is a serious player in the personal lives of his employees. The one hour "Office Baby" special was an opportunity to showcase that to the max- and the writers didn't let me down. There was so many classic Michael lines throughout the episode that I seriously had trouble choosing which one to showcase in my necessary tweet of appreciation. 'Nard dog, who in my opinion is 2nd funniest to Michael, was also incredible. So happy him and Erin are FINALLY going on a date. But even happier that Jim and Pam  have a baby. Because when Jim leaves Pam for me one day- I'll have an adorable stepdaughter.

Grey's  Anatomy coined one of the funniest phrases ever when they said one of the female characters can't have 'no-strings-attached-sex' because her "heart is in her vagina." Solid episode with a standout quote.

Concerning Project Runway, in this week's "hardware store" challenge the best thing we saw was a key necklace from the younger girl with the dark hair and bangs:

and last but not least, we have this clip that is all over the web this morning from last night's Late Show with Jimmy Fallon. Though he failed to reunite the cast of Saved by The Bell, he succeeded in booking the cast of California Dreams. And while we may not remember character's names or reference classic tid bits (The Sprain, I'm So Excited and Oh Artie Boy being my preferred SBTB go-to references) we all know the theme song. Yes Zack and Kelly together would have made me leap on the couch Tom Cruise style but this is still in the category of awesome nostalgia delivered:

Will it replace the reigning king of web comedy? Probably not- for those of you who live under a rock I present Funny or Die's Presidental Reunion:

Hopefully some blog worthy bits from this weekend's SNL with Zach Galifianakis and of course expect a post about Sunday Night's Oscars!

Thank goodness for DVR and caffeine.

Love,
Jac

I hadn't seen Alex Lambert's performance before now (of course, I come to the Pants for all my pop culture deficiencies). I loved it! His voice really is so mellow and pleasing; he's becoming a fave.

Let's just all face it now: Tim Urban cannot sing. He has no control at all, and he has no vocal power. Is he absolutely beautiful? Yes. Ellen was completely correct when she suggested that he act and then perhaps sing as an aside.

I was so happy to see so many reviews in one post from so many of my favorite shows!

I could not agree more about the 180 with Alex Lambert, as I had voted him off the first week of my pool (the week where i got 0 votes correct as opposed to 3/4 correct this week-go us). Needless to say, I HATED him that week and just wanted him gone. This week however, I fell in love with him and hope that these performances from him continue. And I just died at the Carol Brady inspired mullet comment-so true!

I also could not have agreed more about Katelyn Epperly's performance! I thought it was a beautiful rendition-not to mention her vocals were SPOT ON. They hated it and I really havent agreed with most things the judges have been saying this season so far.

I happen to be a huge DiDi fan, and I thought both of her performances have been in the top 3 every week. I agree about Michael Lynche-except that he has a tendency to come off as cocky and that could hurt him in the future.

The office-AMAZING! Cecelia ! Presh! The part that killed me - the accidental breast feeding to the wrong infant..oops!

Keep the reviews coming! Especially Idol- i enjoy hearing what you have to say. Go Bowersox! (Btw, i love hearing the secretaries where I work pronounce all the contestants names wrong when they talk about it, my fave to date is Soxerbox)

Amanda,

all last year i devoted sole posts to Idol reviews and no one ever commented, unless it was my friend Alec complaining. Your comment has given me a new hope for this season!

I had such high hopes for Lacey... but she has disappointed me both weeks.

I didn't know you watched Idol Rics- I'm very excited about this development.

something I forgot to bring up, a specific from elimination, Katie Stevens- is the name of the young girl, the way she was crying when Hailey was singing killed me. It was so genuine, her singing along with the other young/HS aged student. soooo sad
