I'm not an Apple junkie and while I do love my iPhone, I can't say my sadness for this stems from extreme brand fandom. It's more so my fascination with creativity and how sad I am that we have lost a great innovator.

A few months ago, I watched a documentary, "Waking Sleeping Beauty"- a film that documents the fall and rise of Disney animators in the late 80's- early 90's. Hello, Hakuna Matata? Footage of young animators collaborating, butting heads, winning, losing, TRYING- to me, this was compelling. Compelling stories like this, the ones shared in Malcom Gladwell's books and profiles of "Wacky Chicks" written up by famed fashion window designer Simon Doonan are more important to me than an episode of the Kardashians where Kim picks out the bottle for her new fragrance. I wish they had a tv show where we got to see what a day in the life of Steve Jobs was like and while I'm happy that some reality television does expose us to talent (American Idol, Top Chef, Project Runway) I can't help but wish there was a little less focus on 'fame' and more on being an individual who gives something to the world.

I want people to be motivated to chase change, seek solutions and explore every day. And my fear is that there is too much tampering with that pure instinct- I've certainly strayed from that philosophy from time to time. It saddens me that it takes a finite end for us to revel in the success of a person. I only found that quote of Steve's on the day that he stepped down, Conan O'Brien was tweeted and Facebooked non stop upon the termination of his time with NBC, we often only explore the lives of great people through their memoirs and biographies; I think we need to be more present and aware of the brilliance around us. This is when I turn to the products from Jobs and hope that somewhere a little child is using an iPad, dreaming up how he can shake the world.

For me, for you you, for the people in our lives and future generations- my hope is that we don't forget to pause and look around, stop seeing things for what they are and recognize what they can be. Because yesterday we lost someone who lived that philosophy and the void must be filled- luckily what he taught us can shape our own efforts.

Thank you so much Steve- you will never be forgotten.

I shopped on Saturday. Seriously shopped- made a list, stuck to some guidelines and went to town. On the leopard flat front- I found these at Aldo and they are perfect. The rise on the vamp is that of a loafer but the whole shape resembles the currently trending slipper style- and what about that perfectly adorable heel? I'm so happy. Those days when I just want to throw on a simple sweater and jeans just became a whole lot more special.

The timing of the silent function on my iPhone deciding not to work and availability of a cheap iPhone 4 is just perfect. Never the one to avoid going over the top, I might just even splurge for the 4S- shocker. The icing on the cake? Finding this sold out Kate Spade iPhone case on eBay- bidding closes in 9 hours and I'm willing to Smith Jarrett this bad boy. Oh yea- I just used a SATC main man as a verb.

For many, a red and white striped shirt with jeans is classic French fashion. Today I am sporting this look and while I certainly recognize the Parisian influence- I attribute my inclination elsewhere. This sartorial shot of Eva Mendes is the anti gamine and I adore it. It was in a ton of magazines and blogs and I admittedly pasted in my fashion inspiration book.

Instead of pairing the top with skinny jeans and flats, she's bold with cat eye shades, big flares and higher than thou platforms. Oh and an EXTRA splash of red.

The seemingly basic outfit gained so much attention because of that- she took something standard and broke the rules. Yet, she still looks fantastic. Dare I say better than the rest of them Audrey copycats?

I'm wearing mine with nude loafers and hoop earrings. The bag: gold.

Back up lady, wait wait wait! Fashion Inspiration Book? What?

For a year or so I've kept a book of outfits and items- from catalogs, editorials, how-to's, that tickle my fancy. I enjoy getting dressed, I take it more than face value of what I'm wearing that day. It's an expression, it's an opportunity to be creative EVERY morning that most of us just take for granted. And on those days when I do take it for granted, I don't feel my best. So I started the book to keep me fresh, full of ideas and in tune to what style I want to have.

With the relaunch of this blog, I'm happy to introduce a new series where I take an outfit from my book and show you how I copied it, made it my own or drew inspiration from it. I'll document myself on my best of Eva days and share them with the web. The photos will probably be super awkard but the bigger picture will be just lovely.

I feel super Judy Jetson when I use my SeamlessWeb app to order food from my phone- I sincerely love the lack of human interaction and blind trust of storing my credit card with them. My iPhone is always ready to tend to my hunger between this app, Yelp and MenuPages. Which is why it makes so much sense that Seamless Web has now acquired MenuPages:

Looks like they're going for a direct hit to Yelp- with acquisition of trusted reviews. I still think my immediate instinct when looking for a restaurant will be to use Yelp and when looking to ORDER I'll turn to Seamless- but we'll see how they take it from here.

I enjoy a dash of leopard- well I actually allow myself to ONLY enjoy a dash of leopard. Otherwise I think I'd go full throttle and that would be too Peg Bundy on me. Given my restrictions, season after season I'm all for a leopard flat (and there was those few years in college where I annually purchased big fuzzy leopard slippers, always a hit during 3am fire drills.)

Right now I'm choosing between 2 pairs- both use contrast to mute the 'roarrrr' vibe, which ones should I get?

NU DAY, Aerosoles
A lot of brands are doing leopard flats as moccassins, loafers and smoking slippers, balancing out the racy vibe often associated with the print by setting a preppy tone. I like this particular shape because it's somewhere between a moc and loafer. That being said due to the fact that they are Aerosoles they have that whole orthopedic sole look going on. That being said- ORTHOPEDIC SOLE! I'll walk the city!

These are more classic of a leopard flat but I enjoy that the bow sweetens things up. My hesitation here is that the sides cut pretty low and I've found that more comfortable flats really embrace your whole foot. I am, after all, a girl on the go.

So imagine, it's about three weeks from now and we're well out of this muggy-confusing-I'm sweating and it's raining-weather. I'm wearing a thin knit black sweater, skinny jeans and... one of these pairs of shoes. Which look better?

What do you think? Is that sole too horrible on the first pair? Is the 2nd pair worth the pain? Is it only a matter of time before I turn into Scary Spice?

Indo Mood Lamp from Indonesia

On my past few vacations I've made it a point to pick up a nice piece of jewelry or decor; it's always my hope to find something as permanent as the Facebook albums I'll make when I return. (Facebook will own our souls long after we're dead.) If I travel as much as I'd like to, I'll eventually have a mini-museum that maps out my travels through keepsakes. Sentimental woman, always.

Though this lamp is from Indonesia, I actually spotted it on my recent trip to Austin. It was in the fair trade shop Ten Thousand Villages, sadly it doesn't travel well and I wouldn't be able to fit it in a suitcase. But I was directed to their website and plan to buy it for my next apartment. Definitely check out the rest of the store-they have a great history/mission and any purchase is worth it for that alone.

There was another failed attempt at purchasing a souvenir but I'll get to that another time... gotta keep you coming back for more now that I'm back in town!

I had an amazing summer- the pillars being Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and most recently my trip to Austin. Scattered in there were peaceful beach weekends, non stop city nights, family dinners and parties, volleyball games and improv shows. Today is the first day of fall (I know I've been gone but do I really need to remind you that it's my favorite?) and while I am SO happy it's here-I'm a little sad to officially say goodbye to summer. This one in particular was about balance, priority, relationships with family/friends and health for me- it was a season that changed me for the better. I didn't take the sunshine for granted and I mean that in more ways than one.

For the past few months, I have toyed with the idea of ending my time here on Everyday Sassypants. What I want to share and write no longer aligns with the "brand" I have built over the past three years. I started this blog when I was fresh out of college, spending my free time at work finding and sharing gems I'd found on the internet. These days most of that can be done via Twitter or Facebook status updates and even on the very disliked Google Buzz.

What I want to focus on with my blogging is more than posting website links and popular web videos. I really want to push myself to share more personal essays and original content. Also, I don't think I am as 'sassy' as I was at 22. My snarky "open letters" were fun to write but I'd like to credit myself with the ability to present my opinions in a manner that is less abrasive. These days I like my writing better when it is raw and honest. So to move forward in this direction with my blogging would contradict the title of the blog itself. I also don't foresee myself blogging everyday, I'm currently looking for a job that keeps me busy and engaged. Ultimately the ease of blogging so frequently was an obvious indicator that I needed to be more challenged at work. My goal with writing is to favor quality over quantity. This objective nicely lends itself to my goal of having a job where I am busy, passionate and focused on a career.

I am sad to say goodbye to Everyday Sassypants. In those murky few years first out of college, it was my only outlet for creativity and thought. Since leaving my full time job in September, I've had more time to reconnect with myself and at the same time I've been blogging less. I honestly felt guilty for not being as dedicated as I was during my days of being bored at my desk. I'd go to blog but for the most part I couldn't find much to share that wasn't being shared on other various social media outlets.

I started blogging on an Upsaid journal my senior year of high school and at some point during college I moved to Livejournal. These 'online journals' as we called them way back then were more so an account of my day to day than an entertainment hub. When I started Everyday Sassypants it was less focused on me and more on my opinions on fashion, music, websites and entertainment. In the past few months, I've felt most myself when writing the posts tagged "inside out" and "heart matters." Expect this writing and some comedy oriented work on my new site. I'd be lying if I said there will never be the occasional "I lust this" post.

I'm currently leaning toward a Tumblr site, with the only negative being non-user commenting isn't built in. I love how easy tumblr is. When I do want to share just a link, photo or video it's often as easy as "reblogging" something someone else has posted. I enjoy the community aspect of it and I'm pretty sure I can add a commenting widget to include everyone.

I should have all of this figured out by the end of the month so please visit back here for my official new address and of course, a more heartfelt goodbye.

I had an excellent Thanksgiving, maybe one of the best ones in recent memory. I didn't think I could put my finger on it- but maybe it's just as simple as being happy to be around that table with my family. In light of this year's misfortunes with Kaitlin's health, I suppose we are all seeing things a little differently and not taking one another for granted. It's also that I don't live at home anymore and don't eat that many dinners with my family, meals with them always ranking high in my favorite things. I also know that we are all closer than ever, bound together through humor and affection that comes out in the most troubling of times.

Before we ate, my Mother attempted to get out some words of thanks- but we didn't make it that far before she was choking up. So we stopped there- knowing that all of us share the same unsaid things to be thankful for. I'd like to attempt to verbalize some of the things we kept quiet about in that emotional moment of gratitude.

This same emotional tipping point happened earlier this summer at our first When I... event. As I mentioned, the turnout was overwhelming- people from every walk of my life were there. Seeing faces of family and friends led to one great mini reunion after another and for a good portion of them I kept it together; many of these people were delightful surprises to see. Those surges of joy all amounted when I looked across the crowd and saw my elementary school vice principal walk in. In that minute-I realized just how enormous this gesture of affection was. A vice principal, who knew my sister over 10 years ago, was entering an event to support her and my family. I was in a room filled with love. Nothing but love and good energy- and people who I've known since a time when I couldn't imagine hurting this badly were there bringing it our way. I am so grateful for all of you and what you have given us in the run of this journey. EVERYTHING has mattered.

On the day Kaitlin was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was rejected from NYU's program in Higher Education Administration. Upon getting into my house to see her that day, I grabbed the mail out of habit. I opened the rejection letter, barely flinched and threw it in the garbage pail. "Oh ha ha I didn't get into NYU," I said laughing while Cali looked at me searching for the cry at the drop of the hat sister she is used to. Since then my approach to most bad news has leaned in the direction of, "ok we're alive. we're all right." I don't see the point in sweating the small stuff after seeing how Kaitlin has handled this very large something. It would be an insult to circumstance and neglect of the inspiration she has brought on. Bad days happen, it rains, your metro card gets demagnetized, that guy never calls and you didn't get the promotion you went up for. But you're alive. And while it's only human to be frustrated about these smaller disappointments, it's nice to chase these feelings with a shot of "It could be worse," OR get rid of negative thoughts completely and think of all of the good that you do have.

I'm not saying I'll never feel bad feelings again... but I'm grateful that I no longer dramatize things that would hold me down while not being worth the significance of doing so. And by the way, in the same year that I was rejected from NYU I've lost a job, been seriously broke, lost a family pet and my favorite trouser shorts are a bit too snug on me.... have you ever seen me have a woe is me tweet or Facebook status since? I've only talked about the pursuit of what I really want to do, wonderful ways to be frugal, honored my little kitty and worn wonderful skirts. It doesn't take a super human to be someone who brings happy in the way of others. We will all be doing each other a favor. (This is an indirect way of me saying that you need to stop with the "FML" stuff.)

My parents serve as the perfect example of this; because they are still dancing. On Thanksgiving, I caught them gliding away to a Latin tempo in the kitchen. They have always gone above and beyond for us and I know they are tired. My Mother goes out of her way to make those weeks from Thanksgiving to New Years Day a perpetual party-manically shopping for her six adult children and preparing delicious meal after delicious meal for a very large, long, table of loved ones. I recently went through a very scary week where my breast had to be biopsied, luckily everything turned out a-ok. When I needed it most, my father pulled me aside, hugged me and said he loved me. It was all I needed to calm down and be brave. My whole life I've never felt like "1 in 6"- just a number in a lineup; instead I am "1 of six" given a world of affection and wisdom from the two most loving, selfless, fun people I know. And in all of this madness, they still find time to throw me a 25th surprise birthday party, come see my improv shows, spend days at the beach with me or sit around the table and play games with all of us. They too have demonstrated that the best way to get through the harder things in life is to keep living and I love them for reinforcing that lesson.

My sister was born on Christmas Eve and my whole life I've referred to her as the best Christmas gift I've gotten. So you have to understand that I enter the season with a very heavy heart this year. I'm thankful that Kaitlin is healthy. And while I can attribute that to medicine and treatments- I've got to give credit to her soul. Sometimes I look at her and I get hit with an admiration that stings me. Other times, I watch her and think of many scary what-ifs... I think back to the morning when she told me she had discovered a lump and had me feel it. I remember clearly not being worried at all laughing and saying "okay I'm sure it's nothing." Then I kicked her out of my room and returned to my regularly scheduled sleeping in on Saturdays. Had my Mother and Kaitlin thought it was nothing... I can't bear the thought of the difference those months of ignorance would have made. The mornings after Kaitlin was diagnosed, I would wake up and immediately think to myself how that day was actually happening, how everything had quickly changed- how we can't ever be sure that something is nothing.

Everything has indeed changed, for Kaitlin, for me, for my family. And in your lifetime, something has or will change you. I don't think we need to veer change into the direction of "for the better or for the worse" but more so consider it as the vessel that can take us one way or the other. The beauty is we get to steer that ship and we should always be striving to take that change to the best place possible. I am so happy that I've had a network of people who have taken me along with them to that hopeful, harmonious world. I am so happy to be here and happy to have you here with me. As I mentioned in the beginning of the post, it really is as simple as being around that table. Let's make a promise to never take one another for granted... be that vice principal, be that parent, be that Kaitlin- be someone for everyone and you will have a world that you are so grateful to be living in. I certainly am.

Top: 1) My cold weather uniform is leggings and layers- this fairisle wrap sweater would certainly meet those guidelines. Also, I can't say enough good things about winter white. 2) I think rich blue is just as much of a Holiday color as red and green- be the saucy ice princess of the party 3) Wear this now with a classic cardigan and save for denim skirts in the summer time 4) Gold Bangles are a safe bet for most of the women in your inner circle
Middle: 1) I own this from last season and I am so happy to be able to share it this time around- my sisters and Mom call me lamb chops when I wear this pullover. It's the softest fleece and perfect for chilly nights around the house. Give it to anyone you love- I promise it's deserving of the important people in your life. 2) An item that is on my personal wishlist- yes I have many coats- but I am currently lacking two necessities: a puffer and a non-black wool dress coat. Camel was all the rage on the Fall/Winter runways; I'm happy to see Gap rendered something for their customers. 3) This dress will look good on you. All of you. A-line, tank style, create curves and compliment them, great to wear under a sweater or over a turtleneck-fun contrast of texture and shading... and it's on sale! Scoop it up and wear it for many seasons to come. 5) Besides making me well versed on monuments and musuems, my time in D.C. gave me great appreciation for the preppy man; this sweater could be seen on every budding politician walking through Georgetown and yet I don't think I'll ever get over it. I swear, it works wonders and even if your Dad, Brother, Boyfriend, etc. isn't a prepstar- he can rock this (no croakies required) and look insanely handsome.
Bottom: 1) One of my seasonal staples is an oatmeal sweater, this one would look perfect with dark jeans and camel boots 2) I love how this is aptly named the "New Year's Eve Bracelet" for it's decorative shimmering spheres, it's also only $29 and looks like it would be a whole lot more

Top: 1) If I was Oprah, Kiehls lip balm would make my favorite things list every year- this special edition gift pack is works to break up as stocking stuffers or give as a whole to a fellow Kiehls junkie 2) Michael Kors makes magic happen by combining the combat boot trend with the need for a functional waterproof shoe 3) If you're going to do leopard why not go all out and do it in a cropped fur dress coat? 4) Longchamp bags are tried and true classic for a reason, the fact that they fold up makes them great for travelling and they come in a variety of colors that suit everyone, the medium size is decent for weekend and workday use 5) lightweight wool coats transition nicely from fall through spring, extra coats are nice to have but an unlikley purchase one makes for themselves

While I'm on the topic of the brand may I also repeat to you that Hue makes my favorite tights and they're usually 2 for $20 3) I'm not super into makeup but luckily Cara, my extremely talented makeup artist bestfriend, turns me onto the best products- Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer is one of those recommendations that has become a staple 4) Flat black boots that flatter your leg; take the time and try on different heights (mid calf, below the knee, over the knee, ankle) to see what works best for your legs- ultimately the best pair for you will lenghten and flatter your calf 5) Rose Gold is something that magazines seem to continually push but no one really dares to try, I guarantee that if you try on a rose gold watch-you'll be persuaded, in this Michael Kors style the pinky tone brings a nice contrast to the traditionally masculine size & design

I realize I've sucked at blogging as of late- I've almost lost all right to have the word everyday in the title of this dead log. That being said, please cut me some slack. This week was particularly difficult due to a freak accident where water ended up on my laptop and I had to get a new motherboard. (in the context of me having friends over drinking the night that this happened it seems a whole lot less freak accident a lot more "jaci stop dancing with an open glass of vodka in your hand.")

Prior to this week, I was posting but no where near the frequency of earlier months. I know it's a bad month where my # of posts does not exceed the actual date. With just 14 posts in November, on November 20th- I know that it's a time to spruce things up and make it up to you.

Luckily the perfect resolution to this lull lies in the power of the calender, I fancy myself a very merry holiday season and always bring that same joy to Everyday Sassypants. With this pledge, I also promise to bring a bit more me than just embedded videos and fashion wish lists. I have a lot to say- and you may have caught on to the fact that when I'm not speaking so much I'm actually brewing up a whole lot of something- so be prepared for that too.

On Tuesday, I was an extra on set for Rebecca Drysdale's "It Gets Better" music video. If you're anything like me you'll love this song equally for it's catchy Gaga vibe and message to raise teen homophobia awareness.

The Oprah interview with Barbra Streisand (and surprise guest Robert Redford) was full of many great moments. One of these great moments happened right at the end, when they showed a clip of an interview Barbara did with Oprah 15 years earlier.

Oprah says to Barbra that she is one of the biggest stars because she has always inspired Oprah- she elaborated by saying this,

"I think that's what a true star does, it makes you want to reach for that which is impossible"

Finally someone articulates the reason why I'm always crying during awards shows, celebrity interviews, every episode of Oprah's final season and American Idol. Yes American Idol somehow categorically fits- Bowersox was a real star last season.

Way back in 2005 I acted in an educational video at AU that ended up winning awards; while piecing together my acting resume I found my segment is actually online, just waiting to be shared with all of you!

Jake also starred in one of the segments, he had originally volunteered to help with production and they needed an actor last minute. I hope you're humping your heart out in kitty heaven. 16 years ago, we had a rough start. I was scared of things like boys, contact sports and rambunctious felines. You thought it was playing when you hid under my bed and pounced my 8 year old feet, I thought it was grounds for assault. When I moved back to NY many years later, though I'm still afraid of boys and contact sports, you managed to soften me up on the animal front. In my time back at home, you were one of the best friends I had... thanks for being there for me.

I'll remember you for your ambition (how badly you wanted a seat at our dinner table) tolerance (allowing us to zipline you across the living room in a basket attached to our curtain strings and always giving in to a holiday outfit or doll costume) pride (you bullied the shit out of Georgio, our short lived attempt at having a 2nd family cat, you traumatized the little guy and we had to give him away, thus proving you were the only king of our jungle) and loyalty (when you were in a sexual relationship with Cali's furry boot, it was the only boot that you were sexually involved with.)

Our late night chats were always the best, you leaping up to the kitchen counter begging for one more treat as I abandoned my late night post watching tv in the den. I swear you were talking back to me, even though most would say it was just desperate cries for a little snack.

In a home of 8 people, you managed to develop unique and special bonds with each of us. I know that me, our parents and siblings will miss you. We will continue to defend your title as most adorable cat, actually "he's not a cat-cat, he's more of a dog" ever. You will live on through memories of the warmth and laughter you've given us, literally there isn't a blanket I won't use without thinking of how you'd give it your sweet loving.

PSD: Preconceived Seasonal Depression

It’s true, fall has settled upon NYC. Though I truly enjoy this season and find a charm in the winter months, I poured a mug of extra hot tea this morning and fought against my deepest seasonal fears that these recent northerly winds have reminded me of.

My diagnosis: preconceived seasonal depression. This is not a good sign given that it’s only October 18^th and it was a mere 52 degrees last night. It’s way too early in the season to whip out the North Face jacket and the whiskey bottle, so I’m taking control.

This year, I’m on a mission to beat my seasonal depression. Though waiting at the bus stop may seem like a bad arctic dream, and de-layering every time you step inside may make you want to stop, drop and move to Barbados, I’ve generated a list of tips to help us all survive these winter months…with a smile.

1 – Resolutions don’t have to wait until January 1^st. This morning I committed to doing push-ups every morning before I shower; eating breakfast at home; and packing a lunch to work. Maybe you can adopt a vegetarian workweek philosophy, join a yoga class, or take up meditation. I’m gearing up for survival.

2 – Recurring dates. Starting in November my goal is to have a weekly potluck dinner. Pull together some friends and commit to one night a week of food, drinks and board games. Keep the menu and responsibilities rotating so you don’t get bored.

3 – Master a recipe. I think it’s necessary for everyone to have a signature dish. You never know when you’ll be in a situation to show off your culinary skills – a last minute date night, dinner with friends, breakfast with your in-laws… who knows? Pick a dish. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. When you’ve become master chef, learn something new.

4 – New Moves. No matter what, you’ll likely be spending more time in bed these coming months. Single, dating, married, whatever you are, step it up and try something new (whether you’re on a solo mission or not). Kamasutra, toys, homemade movies, professional movies, be creative. Your goal: go to sleep and wake up with a shit-eating grin.

5 – Maybe it’s time to take up a hobby. Are you boring yourself these days? If you’re going to be hibernating, then at least be productive. Start a blog, learn a new language, take a pottery class, get a side job, volunteer. Though all you want is to be home on those icy nights, it’s important to keep the interactions alive. Make yourself more interesting by learning, or taking part in something awesome.

Don’t let the short days, and the paralyzing cold steal your soul. Bring it on old man winter; when springtime rolls in, I’ll be a new man.

Fall is my favorite season, so it's been rough not shopping for almost two months now. I'm dying for some t-strap heels, black suede knee high boots, plaid blazers and tweed skirts. I recently allowed myself to buy a white v-neck t-shirt, black v-neck t-shirt and white dolman sleeve t-shirt at The Gap; they were on sale and thus I spent under $30. The re-stocking of staples was justified... other than that, my wallet is laying low due to the move and weeks without work.

Today, I was teased by a visit to Urban Outfitters when I met my Mom and Kaitlin there. Back in my non rent paying/salaried glory days, I definitely would have purchased one of these items

The good news about these items is that I often feel Urban is overpriced when you consider item quality- so perhaps by the time I have the moola for them they'll be marked down to meet their worth. Besides- my current shopping priorities lie in my Halloween costume, curtain for my closet, duvet cover, hamper, some more baskets to decorate my other bookshelves, rain/snow boots and black comfy sneakers for catering gigs.

I hope this explains my lack of fashion/shopping posts- it's very hard to blog about shopping when you are avoiding the retail world at all costs. That being said, I still have 2 thrift dresses to introduce you to- both of which could be mistaken for something sold at Urban, one cost $15 and the other $10. They both need to be taken to a seamstress to be shortened- we can add that to my list.

I'll share some more lust items- both realistic and non realistic in the next few days.

Ever since Facebook rolled out their Photo Memories feature, I've been spending way too much time strutting my stuff down memory lane. Cara and I will message each other with links to the photo memories that show up on our Facebook pages because these obscure snap shots bring up memories that are long forgotten. Mostly ones of moments that were forgotten in the first place due to state of mind when they were taken- so consider it a second coming. I've noticed that Facebook is rotating about 3 or 4 people in who they give me memories of- and I've been somewhat suspicious as to how they know to give me memories of my closest friends.

Today, Mashable shared news that a) confirms there is some nerdy super duper work going on behind the Photo Memories feature and b) will comfort those who can't handle seeing photo memories of their exes

This weekend my Aunt and other family members will participate in The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. They have registered a team for When I and we would love for you to support us and the cause.

I won't be walking because I have an improv show that afternoon but please support our organization and honor my sister, two aunts and all the other women and families who have been affected by this disease.

My sister Kaitlin probably won't be walking on Sunday either. This is because today she had her reconstructive breast surgery, she will still be on bed-rest. She finished chemo about 2 weeks ago and she will begin radiation shortly. You may be thinking- wow it's done! But it's not... it's never done. We are an interconnected web of individuals and the reality is many of us know or will know someone with breast cancer in our lifetime. It is even more realistic that the person may be close to us. It is scary and still accurate to say that it can even be us. So while it is certainly worth celebrating-it's not a cause I plan to abandon or neglect because it is 'almost over'. For myself alone, I need to be mindful of my own habits and health. For my sister, we need to make sure she stays cancer free.And for everyone, we need to do and give as much as possible. Kaitlin did not test positive for the BRCA gene and thus far her case is considered environmental. Funding is needed to further research the causes and the cure- genetic and not genetic. Women need to be educated on preventative measures. Resources must be made available. So if you didn't do so upon my first prompt, please again- donate HERE.

A few weeks back, I was hanging out with Cara, Enrica and Jake. We started discussing the misfortune that is 'bad things happening to good people.' Before we knew it, our conversation tread into a discussion of faith. I'll admit to you that through all of this, I have resented the powers that be for giving Kaitlin breast cancer. In the most blatant and Stephanie Tanner of terms, I sometimes think 'how rude.' I look at her- in her most ordinary moments, rambling on about music, art, places, people with passion- and think HOW. My own philosophy when it comes to religion is to be good. Just be good and channel the energy that you want to surround yourself. Smile at people, help those that you are able to help and be thankful to those that help you. Naively- I always thought that the good get good. I would giggle "karma" upon finding a wallet and sending it to it's owner. I really thought me and the big man had a contract of balance.

When this happened to my sister, I felt the contract had been betrayed. Kaitlin is the epitome of my philosophy and she is someone who commits to it far more than I do. She is kind, vibrant, open to others, peaceful and supportive. I wanted to take my faith, crumple it up like a piece of loose leaf thrown in a garbage pail. There goes that, I thought.

I shared this with my friends- and they were quick to agree that it sucks for anyone we love and admire to undergo troubling times. But then Enrica elaborated upon an ideal of yoga philosophy- that those who are tested are chosen to be tested for their strength. They are pillars for the rest of us- these survivors, (and when I say survivor I'm referring to survivors of cancer and of any unfortunate circumstances) are what make us more resilient. They are our leaders and our lamp posts.

I'd rather have this enlightened perspective than the one I had before. I'd rather add 'survivor' to the list of things I admire about my sister than use 'cancer' as a list of reasons I don't have faith in this world. I can't tell you what to believe but if you're ever feeling hurt by conditions you can't control- I want you to draw the same kind of strength. I know it's easier to feel like a victim but in the end it's far more beneficial to channel the attitude of a survivor. We need each other, as I said before we are an interconnected web of individuals. I'm paying forward to you what Kaitlin has given to me. And through Strides Against Breast Cancer, 6 million walkers across the country pay it forward each year.

I am thankful for everyone who has supported When I... thus far and I express my advanced appreciation for anyone who donates to our team. One of our purposes with When I.... is to share Kaitlin's story and positive outlook with others. We are looking to the future while looking out for one another. We don't think anger is a positive way to fight cancer. The burden of being negative is enough to make someone weak. Kaitlin's strength in recovery will be just as environmental as the cancer she tested positive for. We believe in building an encouraging environment for women; from women taking preventive dietary measures to women on their last day of radiation. We are here and we are happy. And though I didn't always see things so clearly, I truly believe that more good will come of this than bad.

My room is ALMOST done. I'm pretty happy with how it's looking. One of my favorite things about my bedroom in the new place is the built in bookshelves. When we first saw the apartment I was so enamored by them that I didn't even notice this room has no windows. In my head I was all "wow whoever gets that room is so lucky!" My roommates must have thought I was nuts when I said all three rooms were equally as good- one has it's own bathroom and the other is a bit larger. It was only after they pointed out the lack of windows in room #3 that I was lifted from my clouded euphoria for the shelves. Luckily a lack of windows meant a lower price point and a perfect way for me to have the built in bookshelves of my dreams.

A lot of the clothing I use in fashion interpretation posts is from UK fashion retailer ASOS. They have a lot of on trend items at affordable prices. Now we can enjoy the clothes off the internet because they have a U.S. online shopping site- check it out here

This can hold me over for Zara's US e-commerce site...I feel like I've been waiting for it for a very long time since the news of it's launch first broke.

In more shopping news, I'm really enjoying all of the vinatage stores in my neighborhood- I've bought two dresses already at under $15 each. They need some work done so expect a before and after post in the near future.

Because it's EVERYDAY SASSYPANTS' THIRD BIRTHDAY. Here at headquarters, all staffers are wearing this celebratory item:

Yep- it's quite the party, me, frizzy messy bun in tact, wearing a sad cone hat attempting to uh-oh it.

I'm happy with the direction the pants took in year three and I'm doing something big to honor this date--- today I officially move to the city. (okay so it was a coincidence... but a perfect one none the less) I'm really happy about the way things are working out right now, it's only natural that this momentum will be reflected here. I already have some ideas for Season 4 that I'm really excited about. Come Monday we'll be back, re-energized ready for another year worthy of ESP.

As always, thank you to my family, friends and commenters for always giving their support and input on the blog. The reason I do this is to communicate- and if it weren't for your feedback I'd spend more time talking to myself in the bathroom mirror. But really, on a serious note, in a more troubling year- your encouragement and words have had an immeasurable impact. I feel so lucky to have people who care about what I'm saying, thinking, feeling, loving, loathing and sharing. I also would love to hear from you and urge you to start a blog yourself. A few months back my friend Bettina e-mailed me asking for advice on starting a blog and just the other day she sent me a link to her new project: BigPlusBold. News like this is always a bright spot in my day. E-mail me if you would like some advice or even to have a bounce back for your ideas.

So as you know, it's October 1st, the lovely birthday of ESP; I'm writing this on breaks from packing a U-Haul, I have an improv show this evening (another swell coincidence:my last act as Long Island resident is performing improv on the Long Island team in a geographic based competition) and then my brother meets me at my East Village apt later tonight with the van to officially move in. This week I made progress with three jobs- all of which I'm excited about, one doing voice over/improv work for radio, one improv/teaching oriented and another in the hospitality industry. It's also the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month so expect a slew of When I posts. October is my favorite month of the year and on it's first day, despite the miserable rainfall, it's appearing to be full of promise. This blog started as a place to escape my 9-5 job... and three years later it's an integral component of what I hope will be a better-more suited to Miss Pants herself- professional trajectory.

Happy Birthday Everyday Sassypants, you're growing up to be quite the blog.

You know that cheesey "you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince" saying? It serves as a metaphor for me and rain boots. Season after season, you can expect one rain boots post here on Everyday Sassypants. My first pair was a tacky impulse buy that embarrassed me every time I left the house; my 2nd was a more classic style that I found uncomfortable and accidentally left in the street on the Lower East Side the night the ceiling caved in on my improv group. I've yet to find a pair that I truly love and find comfortable but learning from the past I think I need to go classic and cozy:

Every now and then I do something a tad stupid in hopes that it will turn into an awesome success story. Like the time I quit my job during an economic crisis because I was 98% sure I'd move to NYC and be running Glamour magazine in no time.

That didn't happen, we all know that. But I'm here guys right? And though we don't have the awe-inspiring results just YET I'm pretty sure that I'm heading in the right direction. This type of thinking is why I, in a more fragile economic state, signed a lease in the East Village yesterday.

I was a wee-bit nervous about the finality of such things until I found myself in a re-assuring situation last night. You see, I was walking down the terminals of the LIRR to board the 1:37 after an evening at UCB (Harold Night and The Monoscene and a celebratory official NYC'er drink with Tubz.) I often head to the terminals closer to the A-C-E to avoid interactions with drunk people I went to high school with. (Did I offend you? I'm sorry- but late night LIRR isn't my finest hour, the bitterness of hopping on a train to leave the fun is enough to put me in a 'do not disturb' frame of mind.) So there I was in a more abandoned neck of the woods that is the LIRR terminals- and I had stopped to make sure I was getting on the right track.

While reading the monitor, I felt a hand clutch my ass and then pat it twice. I quickly turned but the person, the stranger, kept walking briskly. I screamed "are you kidding me?" after him but he didn't even flinch. Just kept walking. He couldn't have been more than 5 years older than me- or he could have even been college aged. Just your run of the mill a-wipe lurking in the LIRR waiting to ass grab strangers. I was so infuriated by the whole thing. The worst thing about it was I was powerless. No one saw it happen- and really what was I going to do- run after him and give him a nice scolding? Instead I just thought of the lease I signed. No more LIRR. No more rushing to get a train that runs my social schedule. No more late night jerks harassing me in Penn Station.

But Jaci- you're moving to NYC, it's a city full of harassers you may say. But you know what guys? They'll harass me on my time, my terms, my agenda! arrrrrgh. Anything to make a girl feel better.

Yesterday at happy hour with Jake, Enrica and Cara- Enrica started telling us about her friend's upcoming show. "Wake Up, You're Dead" is a project from Enrica's friends Aaron and Maggie, I've had the pleasure of meeting both of them and wanted to show them some support here on the pants.

The show combines elements of puppetry, performance art, stop-motion film and (oh boy) a dance party. It runs at La Mama from Oct 29- Nov 7th. I will be attendance and I hope you will be too- if you'd like to show some love in advance you can spare $2 (or more!) their way to help cover production costs. When one called me back yesterday, I said I must have called in regard to a no fee apartment. He said he didn't have any. I said we're only looking no fee- to which he snidely replied "do you work for free." I said to him, "no but I also don't work with people like you." and hung up on him. If you'd like, I can give you his cell # and we can collectively harass the hell out of him. Just to keep stuff on his level of ass-holeness.

Kate Spade always tweets to What I Wore- which of course, compelled me to check out the blog. I should have known I'd enjoy it, the high praise from Kate Spade being an obvious indicator.

Check out What I Wore- a tumblr blog documenting the outfits of Jessica Quirk, a former fashion designer/current author/blogger. Not only am I jealous of her blog, but what a colorful last name--- it aligns perfectly with her modern take on 50's/60's dressing.

I'm currently reading "The Gospel According To Coco Chanel" (see the quote I posted earlier) so of course my mind is abuzz with ideas about style and fashion. Once I have the money and time, I think I'm going to do a major closet edit and re-work some stuff. I have a lot of adorable THINGS but not they're not workable pieces. This makes getting dressed frustrating. I want the perfect oxford, layering scoop neck tees, knit skirts and flat boots. I want the easiest of blazers, chunkiest of camel sweaters and most comfortable weekend pants. Owning these items and then tailoring to your style is what makes one have potential to be someone like Jessica Quirk. I don't think she deliberately sets out each day to have a fantastic outfit- it just happens naturally because her closet has the pieces that make the magic happen with ease.

By the way, the book is really good, now that I'm reading again I'll probably do a full re-cap of recent reads soon. This style oriented read is unique because it's not a "how to look great bible" it's more so a profile of a very successful woman who went about business in her own way. I'm feeling just as inspired as I was by Wacky Chicks.

I can't wait for the day when my biography documents the time I wrote a blog entry about my love for reading profiles of successful, quirky, women while sipping coffee and wearing just a blanket. I had about $50 to my name but damn, I was feeling good.
